About

When the kids were growing up they were never very motivated to clean up the toys, dirty clothes, etc. in their bedrooms – a chore usually reserved for Saturday morning.

One autumn Saturday a run to the home improvement store netted some – yes you guessed it – big black trash bags that were going to be used for yard cleanup, leaves and such.

The light bulb then was lit – however dimly – and the idea was that if the bedroom wasn’t cleaned, it could be cleaned up and all the mess stored into the big black trash bags.

The running joke (tease?) then became to put the things that the kids refused to clean up in their rooms into the bags… which to the kids meant that they would never see these things, some of them important treasures.  This would – sometimes anyway – motivate the actual cleaning of the bedrooms – sort of.

The purchaser of said trash bags? My father! And the joke has continued with my children to the point where we were going to go to big black trash bag dot com!!! So here we are, at this site. You will find a nice blend of posts here with topics ranging from family life, recipes, encouragement, crafty ideas, homeschool, gluten free living (Celiac disease), iPhone pictures, life as a single mom and things I’ve learned in my life. I’m still new at this – so please be patient! I’m sure I’ll be pro in no-time!!
